BRITISH NAVY CHOOSES EFFER AGAIN

30 Jul 2015

The patrol vessel HMS Mersey has hosted two 5s 275M cranes since June

Two Effer marine cranes were installed on HMS Mersey, the Royal Navy vessel similar to HMS Severin and HMS Tyne, which already have many similar models on board.

HMS Mersey is dedicated to constant patrolling of British waters and this continued activity needed tools that were reliable, secure, and robust over time.

Effer has a long history of cooperation in the naval sector and especially with the British Royal Navy, so the old Effer crane model, already on its ship, has been replaced with our new production model.

It is a 275M 5s equipped with a two-ton winch. The model is very flexible (the 275M 5 hydraulic extensions can reach 14.47 meters, lifting 1370 kg) and they are easy to use in confined spaces. This is essential to avoid bumping equipment and naval armaments on board.

HSM Mersey patrols both United Kingdom waters and an area extending up to 200 miles into the Atlantic Ocean making sure that fishing boats and fishing vessels comply with agreed international quotas.

The labour on board is organized under a system of crew rotation. This means that one of its members normally spends four weeks on board and two weeks on the ground, thereby recovering leave days or staying updated with training courses. This rotation thus allows the boat to be almost constantly on patrol.

The crane was installed the first week of June in Falmouth, Cornwall, and Preffered Marine, Effer partner for the UK and Ireland, was on hand to facilitate the installation and conduct final tests on site.
